My goal for this year is to post entries into my blog minimally once per month. I will write about photographers/artists who have had an impact on me and influence my work in one way or another. I also intend to describe in depth the palladium process and current photo projects.
When I retired from education in 2006 I took every photography class our community college offered over a two-year period. I was introduced to the traditional darkroom, digital photography, Photoshop, lighting, large format photography, and alternative processes. I was very interested in alternative processes, particularly the platinum/palladium process.
Initially Fiona McLaren (mclarenphotographic.com) and eventually Arthur Hand (check Facebook) helped me grow in the palladium process I currently use. As stated on this site, I capture images with a digital camera, convert the image to black and white and convert the black and white image to a negative in Photoshop using a process developed my Mark Nelson (www.precisiondigitalnegtives.com). The process is very detailed but provides you with negatives that allow you to print platinum/palladium images with the full tonal range that this process is know for.
My next post will talk a little more about my introduction to the palladium process and digital negatives.
